SAR Electronic SA has designed, installed and commissioned two Off-Grid Solar Hybrid Systems to supply power to the construction sites of two 50 MW Solar Power Plants in De Aar and Droogfontein.

Each system consists of 60kW photovoltaic modules, inverters to take the direct current supplied by the modules and convert it into alternating current, a multicluster box, island inverters and a 48V battery system to supply power to the load at night and in the event of bad weather. The batteries support a AC load of 30 kW for at least 3.5 hours, the back-up time increases significantly when less power is been drawn from the system. Should the batteries charge run low, a 110 kW diesel generator automatically switches on to ensure uninterrupted, fully grid-independent energy. All equipment has been installed in an easy to move 40ft container.

Scope of work included the Engineering and Design, Installation and Commissioning of the System. Project Management and Performance Measurements also formed part of SAR’s contract.

Activate architecture an architectural design firm based in Rosebank Johannesburg, decided to take action in the midst of the South African Energy crisis by investing in a Photovoltaic System with Battery Backup. A 5.1 kW PV System is installed on the roof of the building supplying 70% of the annual energy needs. System Monitoring is done with the SMA Home Manager showing all energy flows via the Sunny Portal accessed either with the SMA Smart Phone APP or a Web Browser. Scope of work included the Engineering and Design, Simulation, Installation and Commissioning of the System. Project Management and Performance Measurements also formed part of SAR’s contract.

The centrepiece is a signboard incorporating signal lights to indicate which workstation has the problem. The alert is activated manually by a worker using a pull cord or button. The system includes a means to stop production so the issue can be corrected and incorporates audio alarms and visual displays. It has the added benefit of continuous supplier quality auditing.

Genio Intelligent Roasters is a company specialized in the production of high-quality, handcrafted Coffee Roasting Machines. Each machine is individually adapted to the respective customer requirements – the customer base ranges from small coffee shops to large coffee roasters all around the world.

The first machines were operated manually, with only some of its parts controlled by hand soldered electronic circuits. However, in order to compete in the international market, Neil Maree developer and owner of GENIO Intelligent Roasters needed to improve the level of automation and the machines user-friendliness. This led to first discussions with SAR Electronic SA and resulted into a contract for the development, installation and programming of a control system for the complete automation of the coffee roaster.

A Siemens S7-1200 controller in combination with the Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA) was implemented. Machine operation is been done via a KTP 600 HMI operator panel. This fully automated control enables the user to run all previous manual processes in fully automatic mode with a very high accuracy. This includes not only the heating and the frequency-controlled drive for the roasting drum, but also the control of the burner.

All roasting programs can be stored in a memory to be selected 1:1 at any given time or easily adjusted depending on the profile desired by the customer.

The BMW F30 is an internal corporate chassis designation for the BMW 3 series. The series is the sixth generation of the BMW 3 series range of compact cars.

MA Automotive has been awarded the contract to manufacture and supply several body parts for this specific BMW model. This involved not only the pressing of sheet metal parts, but also the assembly of single parts to sub-assembly groups such as doors, bonnets, trunklids and fenders.

As those assembly cells use a complex and standardized product and process architecture (BMW PL7 Standard) to ensure high productivity, the design, installation and programming required an experienced system integrator. Through its ability to integrate into the international SAR holding company, SAR Electronic SA was able to deliver and meet all the client’s standards and requirements.

Scope of work included electrical hardware and software planning, cabinet building, electrical installation, PLC and robot programming and commissioning of the cells up to the first automated production run.
